Linda Coco Bishop, 63, passed away on August 14, 2016. She was born on February 7, 1953 in Moreauville, LA. Linda proudly retired from Louisiana State Police with nearly 30 years of service. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her. Linda is survived by her daughter, Jenny Bishop Phenald and husband Brad; son, Joseph "Joey" Bishop and wife Ashlee; step-children, Michelle Bishop Fontenot and husband Chris and Charles "Chuck" Bishop, Jr.; grandchildren, Jacob and Noah Fontenot, Brittany Brothers, Courtney Deese, Emily Bishop, Hannah Lopez, Claire Phenald, Brody and Aubree Bishop; great-grandchildren, Nora and Jude Deese and Oaklen Brothers; sisters, Jan Coco Lemoine, Susan Coco Arnouville; and her dog and best friend, Millie Grace Bishop. Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Charles "David" Bishop, Sr.; parents, Eldred and Mamie Coco; sister, Matena Coco Armand; and brother, Jerry "Buddy" Coco. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for the visitation at Baker Funeral Home, 6401 Groom Road, Baker, LA, Saturday, August 20, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. The graveside service and burial will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Garden.

Paul Vincent 'Pop' Mayeux died August 18, 2016 at the age of 80. He was a native of Moreauville and a long time resident of New Roads, Louisiana. Pop was a well known mechanic and equipment operator who retired from Big Cajun II. Visitation will be held at Niland's Funeral Home in New Roads, Louisiana on Monday, August 22, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at St. Mary's Catholic Church of False River from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with religious services immediately following, conducted by Rev. Msgr. Robert H. Berggreen, burial will follow at False River Memorial Park. Pop is survived by two daughters, Christine Guidroz Drago (Jeff), Lisa David (John Keith); son, Dale Mayeux (Becky); brother, Greg Mayeux, Sr. (Andrea); sisters, Alida "Dot" Armand and Margaret Lemoine (Mike); five grandchildren, Ryan Guidroz (Stacie), Blake Guidroz (Rebecca), Shea Guidroz Landry (Dustin R.), Aaron David and Alexis Mayeux; four great grandchildren, Olivia and Ramie Claire Guidroz and Brogan and Bryson Landry and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Hipolite "Bud" Mayeux and his mother, Hilda Rose Katz; one sister; four brothers; son-in-law, Joseph "Gene" Guidroz, Jr. and granddaughter, Brooklyn Alida David. Pallbearers will be Ryan Guidroz, Blake Guidroz, Dustin R. Landry, Tommy Leonard, J.W. Leonard and John Landry. Honorary pallbearers will be Aaron David, Greg Mayeux, Sr. and Ian, Mason and Grant Landry. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor of Aaron David to The Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Orleans, Louisiana. The family would like to thank the staff at Pointe Coupee Healthcare and Pointe Coupee Hospice for the care they rendered to Pop since January 2016. Pop was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered for Donna Jane Ducote on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Church of the Little Flower in Evergreen with Fr. Bartholomew Ibe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016 at Melancon Funeral Home, Bunkie from 4:30 pm - 10 pm with a Rosary Service at 6 pm and resume on Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016 from 8 am - 9:45 am.

Mrs. Ducote, age 73, of Baton Rouge and formerly of Hessmer, passed away on Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas O. Ducote; her parents, Elizabeth and Sam Ducote and four brothers, Donald Ducote, Jessie Ducote, Henry Ducote and Wilfred Ducote.

Survivors include her two daughters, Tammy Salassi and husband,Chuck, of Central and Connie Fitch and husband, Mike, of New Port News, Virginia; her five sons, Craig Ducote, Sr. and wife, Alice, of Fifth Ward, Ricky Ducote of Hessmer, Michael Ducote and wife, Charmagne, of Evergreen, Ronnie Ducote and wife, Lisa, of Zachary and Brian Ducote and wife, Lisa, of Gonzales; her sister, Ann Welch of Central; eleven grandchildren, Tiffany Fitch, Craig Ducote, Jr., Donald Ducote, Jake Ducote, Taylor Salassi, Cody Salassi, Emily Ducote, Chandler Ducote, Sindy Bordelon, Heidi Marcotte and Laci Richard and two great grandchildren, Malancy Fitch and Kirk Perry.

Honored to serve as Pallbearers are Craig Ducote, Sr., Ricky Ducote, Brian Ducote, Donald Ducote, Craig Ducote, Jr. and Jake Ducote. Honorary Pallbearers are Michael Ducote, Ronnie Ducote, Cody Salassi, Chandler Ducote, Kirk Ducote and Chuck Salassi.

Burial will follow in the Pythian Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

Mr. Ferguson, age 67 of Bunkie, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at his residence.

He is preceded in death by his wife; Sallie P. Ferguson; his daughter, Crystal Ann Ferguson; sisters, Anton Norris, Winnie Ann Ducote and Merille Belt; and brothers, Rufus Lee, Leo and R.L. Ferguson.

Survivors include one son, William Lee Ferguson and his wife Sarah of Evergreen; daughter, Michelle Pasquier of Bunkie; sisters, Joyce Deville of Bunkie, Ruthie Mae Wiggins of Cottonport and Susie McKnight of Hot Springs, AR; four grandchildren, Emily Doucet, Jace, Tucker and Tanner Ferguson.

Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday until 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday at Hixson-Ducote Funeral Home of Bunkie.

A rosary will be cited by Rev. Edwin Rodriguez at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Funeral services for Jenne Le'Ann Prier of Mansura are currently pending.

Jenna Le'Ann Prier departed her life at the age of 31 years old on Monday, August 22, 2016 at her home in Mansura with her family. Jenna was born to Charlotte Ann Prier Jenkins and James Pete Jenkins on August 8, 1985. She was one of three kids. Jenna graduated from Avoyelles High and worked at the Paragon Casino in Marksville. She is preceded in death by two nephews, her maternal grandfather, Lyman Prier, her paternal grandparents, Ika, Sr. & Olla Jenkins.

Those left to cherish her precious memory are her daughter Tearia Prier; two sons, Xavier and Trevonne Prier all of Mansura; parents, James & Charlotte Prier Jenkins of Mansura; brothers, Dondericke J.C. Prier of Mansura and Jamal James Jenkins (Brandi Murray) of Lafayette; maternal grandmother, Lady Jean Murray Prier of Mansura; nine aunts: Sara Lou Prier, Bernadette Pierite both of Mansura, BellaRuby (Alex) Griffins of Alexandria, Melissa Ana Prier of Detroit, Michigan, Stephanie Augustine of Tyler Texas, Cathy Ford of Shreveport, Bonnie (Frankie) Sampson, and Sally Shuller of Houston, Texas and Ophelia Duranda of Marksville, and one uncle, Ike Jenkins Jr. of Cottonport. A ceremony celebrating the life of Georgia Jean Young will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Rush Funeral Home, Pineville, Louisiana. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Rush Funeral Home.

Mrs. Young was born May 10, 1929 in Selma, Louisiana and passed from this life Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Rapides Regional Medical Center.

Georgia was a longtime resident of Centerpoint, LA where she enjoyed her family, friends, animals and her relationship with God. She was retired from the Rapides Parish School Board where she spent many years teaching and molding the minds of tomorrow. This was an accomplishment she cherished with great pride.

Georgia is preceded in death by her parents, Walter & Alcine Nugent; her husband, Richard Young; her brothers, Walter Vernon Nugent (Betty) & Dickey Ray Nugent.

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Geri Clinton (Mike) of Pollock; her sister, Judy Nell Johnson of Centerpoint; her brother, Gary Dale Nugent of Centerpoint; her sister-in-law, Sherry Nugent of Alexandria; four grandsons, William, Jonathon, Kameron & Connor Clinton; two great grandchildren, Michael Clinton, III & Allyson Clinton; and a host of nieces & nephews.

A Viewing and visitation with the family will be Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Rush Funeral Home in Pineville, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. and will resume on Friday, August 26, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kelly and Litia Ponthieux Goudeau; husband, Wilson Desselle, Jr.; sons, Nathan Desselle, Wilson “Sonny” Desselle, III; brother, Willie Goudeau; sisters, Marjorie Quartermont, Nellie Layfield, Della Goudeau, and Marie Goudeau.

Funeral services for Mr. Perry J. Grivette will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2016 in the Chapel of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana with Curtis Williams officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Esler Field, Louisiana, under the direction of Gallagher Funeral Home, Ball, Louisiana.

Mr. Grivette, age 69, of Alexandria, Louisiana, entered eternal rest on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at his residence.

Perry was a long-time resident of Alexandria. He was a welder by trade. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved to fish and hunt. He loved having cookouts with his family and friends.

Mr. Grivette is preceded in death by his parents, Charles Aaron (Bud) and Agnes Marie Bordelon Grivette; step-father, Michael Ducote.

He is survived by his wife, Elsie Grivette of Alexandria; three daughters, Melissa Grivette (Curtis) of Pineville, Sandy Grivette (Roderick) of Mansura and Kimberly Grivette (Ellis) of Cottonport; grandchildren, Destaney Dyson (Dustin) of Pollock, Lindsey Fleenor (Christian) of Lafayette, Amber DeSoto of Pineville, Stacy Laborde of Cottonport, Tracy Laborde (Josh) of Cottonport, Brittany Grivette of Alexandria and Chasity Gagnard of Cottonport; six great grandchildren and his faithful dog, Diesel.

Pallbearers will be Rodney DeSoto, Christian Fleenor, Harry Wayne Desoto, Jr., Johnny Lee Cole, Ellis Gagnard and Robert Edmonds; honorary pallbearers, will be Harry Desoto, Roderick Laborde, Bubba Bordelon, Malcom Dezendorf and Harry Wayne DeSoto, Sr.

Gaston L. Couvillion age 68 of Benavides, Texas

Mr. Gaston L. Couvillion passed away on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at the age of 86 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Couvey, as he was known to his many friends and family, was born on April 14, 1930 in Simmesport, Louisiana, to Jervais Forrest Couvillion and Leontine Rabalais Couvillion. In addition to his 28 years of service to our Nation as an Air Traffic Controller with the Federal Aviation Administration, Couvey also proudly served his country in the early days of the United States Air Force from 1948-1952.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Lilia Imelda Garcia of Benavides, TX. They were married on February 15, 1958 in San Antonio, TX and had four children: Ron Couvillion (also a US Air Force veteran) and his wife Kelli of Huntingtown, MD, Dee Dee Couvillion Dretke and her husband Doug of Huntsville, TX, Colonel Jerry Couvillion (USAF, ret) and his wife Anita of San Antonio, TX, and Mike Couvillion and his wife Kimberly of El Campo, TX. His sister Narcille Couvillion Lorio of Alburquerque, NM, also survives Couvey. Couvey and Lily’s 15 grandchildren are: Rhonie Long, Terri Hamilton, Jason Denlinger (a Marine Corps veteran), Cameron Couvillion, Claire Couvillion, Evan Couvillion, Lara Dretke Clark & her husband Shawn, Ryan Dretke & his wife Calli, Senior Airman Patrick Couvillion, USAF & his wife Senior Airman Brittany Couvillion, Kristyn Couvillion, Jeremy Couvillion, Anthony Couvillion, Korie Couvillion, Kyler Couvillion, & Kenedy Couvillion. Their 10 great-grandchildren include Ava Clark, Briggs Clark, Alyza Dretke, Noah Couvillion, Tyler Denlinger, Aspen Denlinger, Lincoln Denlinger, Ethan Long, Izabela Long, & Rhaymie Long. Couvey is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his parents and ten brothers and sisters.
Visitation and Rosary will be held at Putnam Funeral Home in Kingsland, TX on Sunday, August 28, 2016 beginning at 5:30 pm with Rosary to follow at 6:30 pm. The Funeral Mass, which will be celebrated by Monsignor Doug Fader of San Antonio, TX, will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Kingsland TX on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:00 am. The committal service, with military honors, will follow at 2:30 pm at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, TX. In addition to the many friends and family who helped Lily and Couvey, they would like to especially thank Couvey’s Nurse, Mr. Ed Decerna of Gentiva Hospice (www.gentiva.com/hospice), his Healthcare Aide, Ms. Susane Figueroa of A Comfort Care Home Care Services (www.acomfortcare.com), Mr. Chris Putnam of Putnam Funeral Homes (www.putnamcares.com), and the Men’s and Women’s Club of St. Charles Borreomo Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac and Vinella (Wilson) Turner; two sisters, Lee Esther Dauzat and Kathleen Smith.

Louise lead many to Jesus by her faith and example. Her devotion to the Blessed Mother was unwavering. She honored her commitment to God by devoting countless hours to helping many recover from alcohol and drug abuse. Fielding Funeral Home, 2260 W. 21st Avenue, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday evening from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and AT CHURCH ON FRIDAY beginning at 11:00 AM. Pierre J. Descant “Cajun Fiddler” passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 3 pm. Husband of the late Ura V Armand Descant. Father of Denny P. Descant (Carol) and Darla Descant McNamara. Son of the late Celestine Mary Armand and Pierre J. Descant. Brother of the late Lenora Riche, Lizera Baron, Clophine Dugas, Larma Descant, Isabel Rabalais, Edgar Descant, Elise Trump, Louise Rachel, Leo Descant, Cecilia Rachel, Murry Descant, Marvin Descant and Eura Ortego. Pierre was the last survivor of the 14 Descant children. Grandfather to Amy Bonnaffons (Bill), Christopher Pierre Descant (Jodi), Erin Mouledous (Scott) and Kaitlin McCaulley (Bryan). Great Grandfather of Bryce, Ashley and Brooke Bonnaffons, Cullen Pierre Descant, Owen Pierre and Emma Louise McCaulley, and Jolie Mouledous.
Pierre was 90 years old and a resident of New Orleans and Kenner for the past 50 years and a native of Evergreen, Louisiana (Avoyelles Parish). He served 20 years in the U S Coast Guard, with his last duty station being Commander of the Coast Guard Station at West End on the Lakefront in New Orleans. He served during World War II. He was a member of the CFMA and American Legion 377. He was a parishioner of St. Philip Neri Church and served as an usher. Pierre was the founder, along with his wife, Ura V of the “CAJUN FIDDLER BAND”. He loved performing and singing his Cajun French songs. He performed all over Louisiana including Jazz Fest. Pierre was a wonderful husband and a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Pierre loved life, his family, GOD and Cajun music.

Mr. Desselle, age 71, of Bunkie, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at the Bayou Vista Community Care Center. He was a retired deputy with the Avoyelles Parish Sheriff's Department. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Aymond Desselle and a brother, Gerald Paul Desselle.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Sabia Juneau Desselle of Bunkie; his step-daughter, Marilyn Bowman Cockerham and husband, Tim, of Prairieville; his step-son, Ted Bowman of Bunkie; his two sisters, Betty Dauzat and husband, Robert, of Marksville and Mary Fontenot and husband, Gerald, of Lawtell; his brother, Anthony Desselle and wife, Fredrika, of Arnaudville; three step-grandchildren and three step great=grandchildren.

Cecilia James Holmes passed away on Friday, August 26, 2016 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents Leroy James and Mary Anne Francios. Those left to cherish her memory include, her husband Gene Holmes, Sr., her children; Cassandra Lee and her late husband Jeffery, Kenneth Holmes (Kina) of Mansura, Tyrone James (Ramona) of Houston, TX, Cathy Holmes of New Orleans, Keith Holmes (Lea) of Atlanta, GA, Kendrick Holmes (Rasheeka) of Dallas, TX, and Gene Holmes, Jr. (Judy) of Mansura; her sisters Mary Lee (Norwood) and Judy James, and one brother Walter James (Larhonda); seventeen grandchildren, seven great grandchildren. She leaves several nieces, nephews, extended family, her best friends, and her God-Children.

Mrs. Johnson, age 77, of Bunkie, passed away on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at the Hessmer Nursing Home. She was a retired housekeeper at the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Rectory, having been employed there for over thirty-four years.

She is survived by her daughter, Debra Arvie of Bunkie; three sons, Levi Johnson of Bunkie, Kenneth Johnson of Rayne and Jamel Dixon of Bunkie; seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A Memorial Service for Anatole Dupre, Jr. will be Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 2 PM at the St. Landry Baptist Church with Pastors Blake Houffpauir, Jerry Adams, Josh Adams and Joe Jenkins officiating. The celebration of his life will continue after the service with family and friends until 4 PM.

Anatole "T-not" Dupre Jr., age 81, a long time resident of St. Landry entered eternal rest on August 28, 2016 at Rapides Regional Mediucal Center. He was born on January 1, 1935. He was a retired Crane / Heavy Equipment Operator for Bayou Sale. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He loved to attend church, praying for and with others, spending time with family, laughing and always having a smile on his face. He was such a loving, caring man helping anyone he could. He always put others first. He was an inspiration to everyone that knew him. “To know him was to love him.”

In addition to his parents, Anatole & Ovelia Dupre, he was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony and Patrick; four brothers, Weston, LD, Norman and Preston and two sisters, Margie and Winnie Mae.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly Dupre of St. Landry; four children, Ricky Dupre (Violet) of Pollock, Kerry Dupre (Janet) of St. Landry, Annette Moses of Franklin and Joey Dupre of Geismer; two step-daughters, Kathy Price of Bunkie and Wendy Normand (Earl) of Cottonport, sixteen grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; three brothers, Weldon Fruge (Jane) of Mamou, Ben Dupre (Loretta)of Eunice and Glen Dupre (Carolyn) of Franklin and one sister, Gaynel Manuel of Mamou. He is further survived by many nieces & nephews
