Jules Lemon Edwards, Sr., age 61, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at his home in Hessmer. He was born on October 2, 1954. Lemon was served in the U.S. Marine Corps. After serving, he worked with his father as a farmer. In his spare time, Lemon enjoyed hunting, fishing, and barbequing for family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Clifton Edwards, Sr. and Mary Viola Hebert Edwards; sister, Yvette James; and brother, Joseph Clifton Edwards, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory are his sons, Jules Edwards, Jr. of Hessmer and Lamar Edwards of Houston, Texas; sisters, Mary Gwyn Sampson of Marksville and Serada Fox of Cottonport; brothers, Joseph Ronald Edwards, Sr. of Baton Rouge and Jason John Edwards of Florida; two grandchildren, Laila Edwards and Xavier Edwards; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Laura S. Diaz, age 97 of Denham Springs
Laura S. Diaz, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at the age of 97. She was a native of Marksville, grew up in New Orleans, and later in life a resident of Denham Springs, LA. Preceded in death by her husband, Michael Diaz, Sr.; parents, Winn Joseph Soldani and Adele Michot Soldani; siblings, Gerald Soldani, Lucy Mae Soldani Smith, and Ada Soldani Segar. Laura is survived by her children, Linda A. Barkmeier and Michael Diaz, Jr.; grandchildren, Shael Stringer, Scott Stringer, Stuart Stringer, and Vanessa Diaz Sutcliffe; great-grandchildren, Sophia Adele Stringer, Chance Sutcliffe, and Evelyn Sutcliffe. Laura was a licensed cosmetologist and owned three of her own salons in the New Orleans area. She enjoyed entertaining her family and friends and loved cooking for everyone. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Saturday, September 8, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Service at 12 p.m. Entombment will follow on the grounds of Greenoaks Memorial Park. Peter St. Romain, age 56, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016 at Rapides Regional Hospital in Alexandria. Peter worked for Charter Communications as a technical operations manager for 23 years and then worked for Kerotest Manufacturing Corporation for the past couple years. He served on Mansura's Volunteer Fire Department for over 20 years and was the Assistant Fire Chief. Peter was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Hessmer. He was a kind, hardworking simple man who was skilled with his hands. In Peter's spare time, he enjoyed spending time with his family on camping trips to Grand Isle. He was an avid duck hunter & fisherman and enjoyed raising animals, especially his dogs, chickens, & goats. Peter loved his family most of all and will be missed dearly.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred St. Romain and his uncle, Alden ''Uncle Doo'' St. Romain.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 29 years, Ilie St. Romain of Mansura; son, Allen St. Romain (Arielle); mother, Sadie St. Romain of Mansura; sisters, Jackie James (Roy ''Bubba''), Jenny Brouillette (Benny), & June Bordelon (Bobby ''Shane''); brothers, Robert St. Romain (Jenny) & Perry St. Romain (Janelle). Mr. Clarke, age 55, of Bunkie, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016 at his sister's residence in Gold Dust. He retired, having served as manager for numerous retail businesses in the Bunkie area. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mable Deshotel Clark and his brother, Curt Clark.

Involved in numerous organizations to include Apple of His Eye Charismatic Pray Group (25 years), Arts and Humanities Council of Avoyelles, Chamber of Commerce, Avoyelles Council on Aging Board of Directors (Past President and Board Memebr), Fox Theater Board, Friends of Avoyelles Parish Libraries, Jaycee Janes (Past President), LA Cuisine de la Louisiana, LA Commission des Avoyelles, LeBicentenaire de la ville de Marksville 200th Birthday Celebration, Marksville High School Band Booster Club, Red Cross Volunteer, Red Hat Society, St. Joseph Canter, Retired Employee of State of LA after 10 years of Service (Worked a total of 47 years), Retired State Association. Receiving 2 awards being 2006 Kirby Roy “Going Beyond” award and 2007 Chamber of Commerce “Outstanding Woman Volunteer”.

''T-Ray'' 23 of Cottonport, passed in Zachary on Friday, October 7, 2016. Sylvan was a graduate of West Feliciana High, he loved to fish and he loved his job as mechanic and often traveled home just to help family and friends with any ''car troubles'' they were having.

Mr. Luneau, age 63, of Effie, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Grace Home in Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Luneau and Addie Williams, brother, Sammy Luneau. Paul retired from the D.O.T.D. with 34 years of service. He was also an avid hunter, fisherman and loved the outdoors.

Mr. Ray, age 87, a lifelong resident of Cheneyville, passed away on 10/13/16 at his residence from complications from Parkinson’s Disease. He was surrounded by family and friends, especially during his last days.
He was a member and trustee of the Beulah Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. Mr. Ray was a Director and Secretary-Treasurer at Producers Mutual Gin for many years, as well as a founding member of the Cheneyville Fire Department and served on their board for many years.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Ed Ray, Sr.; his mother, Vivian Bordelon Ray; three brothers, Charles (Piggy) Ray, Gene Ray and James Ray; and two sisters, Lova Lee Ray and Doris Blood.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Betty Ray of Cheneyville; a sister, Alton Cihal of Ganada, TX; his children, Keith Ray of Cheneyville and Janet Ray and fiancé Joe Gallagher of Annapolis, MD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers will be Colby Basco, Derek Basco, Mark Basco, Randy Basco, J.D. Guillory, Ricky Halbert, Chandler Kinnett, Jason Little, Roy Linzay, Jr., Greg Marcotte and Pete Thomas.

Terri Brouillette Scallan, age 58 of Marksville
Funeral services for Mrs. Terri Brouillette Scallan, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 1016 in the Chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville with Fr. Rusty Rabalais officiating. Burial will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville.
Mrs. Scallan, age 58, of Marksville, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2016 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Eileen Brouillette.
Survivors include, one son, Matt Scallan of Marksville, one daughter, Claire Scallan Paquin and husband Gary of Ville Platte, one brother, Kevin Brouillett(Kimberly) of Marksville, three grandchildren, Drew, Emmett, and Avery, one niece Halie, and one nephew, Evan, also survived by her special companion Bernie Couvillion of Marksville.
Visitation will be held at Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Marksville on Sunday, October 16, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. and will resume on Monday from 8:00 a.m. until the time of services. A Christian wake service will be held on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Mary “Pye” Laborde Newell, age 81 of Vic
Mrs. Mary “Pye” Laborde Newell, age 81 of Vick, LA., passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at the Sanctuary at Passages Hospice in New Orleans. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.
Mary was an avid gardener and fisherman. She would like to mention her nephews, Jerry Lewis and “Tootie” Laborde, nieces, Veda Lewis, Trish Starkey and a very special friend, Cindy Gaspard for all of their care during her time of illness.

Clyde C. Holloway, age 72, of Forest Hill
Clyde C. Holloway, a businessman, public servant, and family man, died Oct. 16, 2016, at his home in Forest Hill, Louisiana. He was 72.
Holloway served constituents of the 8th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 to 1993. At the time of his death, he was the chairman of the Louisiana Public Service Commission where he served as a member since 2009. Holloway rose to prominence in the 1980s when he and fellow parents challenged a federal judge’s order to close the public school in his hometown of Forest Hill. They formed Forest Hill Academy, where Holloway served as its first principal and Chairman of the Board. He was an ever-present leader, donor, and champion of the school and its students.
Holloway founded and owned Clyde Holloway Nursery that he started with his wife, Catherine, in 1968 and maintained to his death. They also owned and operated Forest Hill Speedway for more than twenty years.
Clyde was born to James and Ever Holloway as the fourth of seven children. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine K. Holloway; four children: Timothy, Mark (David Kahl), Rebecca Ebert (Randy), and Sara Bruner (Bryan); and nine grandchildren: Caleb, John and Ava Holloway; Evan, Hendrix and Faith Ebert; and Robby, Anne and Will Bruner. He is also survived by his six loving siblings, Carl (Lydia), Virginia Martin (Al Smart), Charlie (Brenda), Vivian Kurtz (Gary “Bud”), Claude (Vergie), Lillian Langston (John), and dozens of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Elwood Baptist Church, 213 Elwood Road in Forest Hill on Friday, October 21, at 2-5pm and 6-9pm.
A funeral service will be held at the Forest Hill festival grounds in the center of town on Saturday, October 22, at 11am, followed by a private burial and public reception at Forest Hill Town Hall, 138 Blue Lake Road. The public will be invited to share memories and stories of their experiences with Holloway during the public reception. (Clyde would have wanted to warn anyone driving to these services to watch the area speed traps!)
Holloway’s nephews will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers: Louis and Wayne Sutton; Rick, John, and Michael Martin; Kevin Kurtz; Ben and Brandon Holloway; Jason and Jeff Langston; and Steve and Scott Kohlhepp. Holloway’s fellow Public Service Commissioners will serve as honorary pallbearers: Scott Angelle, Lambert C. Boissiere, III, Foster Campbell, Eric Skrmetta, and former Commissioner Jimmy Field.
